If groundwater becomes depleted in an area, Oregon Water Resources Department (OWRD) restricts its use.

OWRD has declared certain areas of the state as Groundwater Limited Areas (due to resource depletion) or Critical Groundwater Areas (due to pumping that exceeds long-term natural recharge). Information on the location and nature of groundwater restrictions in Oregon is available at:
